about

N.W London-bred DJ/Producer Jed Dugdale a.k.a Sumgii combines the highly spooky ‘303 O’Two’ with the proto-garage banger ‘Deadline’ for his debut release on Ivy Lab’s 20/20 LDN imprint.

Co-founder of the 616, DVLGNG, and Potent Funk Imprints; Sumgii is far from your typical beat maker - harnessing a distinctly abstract, often sludgy (and often imitated) production aesthetic that’s become a centrepiece of the UK Alt-Rap landscape. His roots in both the Garage and Hiphop scene are clearly evidenced in his approach as a DJ, where as a regular fixture on the underground radio circuit (NTS, Balami, Rinse FM) he effortlessly blends taste-makers rap cuts with drum-machine electronica. That formula delves even deeper in UK club-culture heritage in the live show setting with the aid of toasting MC’s (Sgt Pokes, Illaman, Crazy D, Killa P, Black Josh, Snowy, Jammz)

“Deadline was originally titled Nose Bleed because my speaker stand broke whilst making it and my studio monitors fell and smashed my face pretty hard” ~ Sumgii

With years of celebrated production for rappers (Cult Mountain, Jam Baxter, Forreign Beggars, Remy Banks, Jehst, Dream McLean +++) & high profile remix credits (Newham Generals, Rag’N’Bone Man) Sumgii delivered his long-awaited inaugural solo-instrumental outing with his ‘Who is Genre Anyway’ EP released on the illustrious SWAMP81 label in 2019.
